World Metrology Day is an international event celebrated on May 20. It was started by the General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1960. The goal of this day is to raise awareness of the importance of units of measurement and how universal systems can promote trade, science, and commerce. This celebration seeks to promote the importance of the topic through national and international institutions.
This day commemorates the signing of the Meter Convention in 1875 in Paris, which established an international system of measurement units called “Mètre étalon internationale” (International System of Units). The SI system was based on a decimal scheme rather than a duodecimal one like some other scales. To make it easier to calculate than all the others.
